Derek Rohlffs’ 2023 Wiley Vineyard Pinot Noir is an excellent young wine. It beautifully underscores the cool and classic profile of this vintage, coming in at 12.7 percent octane and delivering a lovely bouquet of red and black cherries, woodsmoke, gamebird, a nice dollop of Anderson Valley herb tones, gentle whole cluster notes and a deft framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, elegant and nicely transparent down to its soil tones, with a lovely core of fruit, suave tannins, bouncy acids and lovely focus and balance on the long and nascently complex finish. This will be a lovely wine once it has blossomed.
